About Wolfersberger Funeral Home, Inc.

In 1946, L.M. "Lefty" and Mildred "Millie" Wolfersberger, along with Othmar J. Meyer, purchased the Schwarz Brothers Funeral Chapel from Matt K. and Leonard E. Schwarz. Original operations were conducted from the current-day VFW Hall on West First Street in O'Fallon.

The Wolfersberger-Meyer Funeral Home relocated the business to its current location at Lincoln and Washington Streets in 1948. Mr. Wolfersberger also operated an Ambulance Service and answered calls and dispatched for the Fire Department 24 hours daily until the 1980s. The Wolfersberger Family lived on the 2nd floor of the funeral home from 1949. Lefty became the sole operator in the 1970s. Mr. Meyer continued with his Lebanon, Illinois funeral home until his own death.

First constructed in 1877 as the residence of Mrs. Elizabeth Penn Scott, the property passed through the Porter, Schaefer, and Allan families before settling into use as Wolfersberger-Meyer Funeral Home in 1949. The building was designated an historical landmark in 1973 by St. Clair County and in 2005 by the City of O'Fallon. Jim and Kim Sabella & family own and operate the funeral home establishment, while also calling it home.
